What Foods Pair Best With Merlot?
02/05/2021

One reason that Merlot is so popular is its versatility, thanks to the wide range of styles and prices on the market.

Typically it is a dry, medium – to full-bodied wine with moderate acidity, moderate to high alcohol and soft tannins.

Fruity, easy drinking Merlot pairs nicely with chicken and pork, as well as pasta burgers and pizza.  A smooth and fuller-bodied Merlot such as ours with flavors of dark berries, wet stone and cocoa pairs perfectly with hearty dishes like roasted meats, duck and mushrooms.

Today is National Stuffed Mushroom Day so pop open a bottle of our Estate Reserve Merlot and enjoy it with this incredible stuffed mushroom recipe.

Stuffed Mushrooms

½ Cup Italian-Style bread crumbs

½ Cup grated Pecorino Romano

2 Garlic cloves, minced

2 Tablespoons chopped fresh Italian parsley

1 Tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves

Salt and Pepper to taste

1/3 Cup Extra-Virgin olive oil

28 Large white mushrooms, stemmed

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F

  2. Stir the bread crumbs, Pecorino Romano, garlic, parsley, mint, salt and pepper to taste, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a medium bowl to blend.

  3. Drizzle a large baking sheet with 1 tablespoon olive oil, to coat.  Spoon filling into the mushroom cavities and arrange on the baking sheet.  Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the filling in each mushroom.  Bake until tender and the filling is heated through and golden on top, about 25 minutes.

Bon Appetit!
